Bhagalpur: Members of medical fraternity, along with their spouses and children, and local residents took to streets here on Friday morning as part of ‘Walk For Healthy Heart’ campaign. They also deliberated on the symptoms and causes of heart diseases on the occasion.

The walk was jointly organized by the Cardiological Society of India (CSI) and Association of Physicians of India (API) to create awareness about the importance of regular brisk walk daily to avoid heart diseases.Bhagalpur SSP Vivek Kumar led the campaign, that started from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JLNMC) premises and passed through the city areas before ending at Ghanta Ghar Chowk. A large number of doctors participated in the walk.At the end of the event, the medical fraternity expressed concern at the alarming rate of heart ailments among common people, including youth. Doctors said sedentary lifestyle, fast-food culture, smoking, alcoholic drinks and lack of physical exercise etc were some of the causative factors giving rise to heart ailments.People suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and mental stress face greater threat of getting inflicted with some heart disease, the doctors said while expressing concern on the increasing incidence of heart diseases and deaths due to it every year.Doctors also said people can prevent heart ailments if they walk or jog regularly.40-45 minutes of brisk walk daily can do wonders for the heart, said the doctors, adding about 15-20 minutes of sports or cycling can serve the same purpose.The doctors participating in the walk included A K Pandey, Binay Kumar, K D Mandal, D P Singh, H S Sharma, Bharat Bhushan, Sandip Lal, Manish Kumar and Archana Jha, besides social activists and others.
